This drawing aims to critique both the positive and negative stigmatization of hemp or cannabis. It critiques the romanticization of it, as well as the economic manipulation that arises from it, utilizing the imagery ingrained in the public and masses from an abstract idea implanted by the media in Colombia in the 90s. The golden circles specifically speak of wealth... both those generated by the trade of the plant (illegal sale) and the natural riches of my country, Colombia. I also portray a peasant woman who may not be a consumer... it's uncertain... in a romanticized portrayal with the plant, almost appearing "stoned" because that's how consumers see it, with "love". My interpretation comes from an external perspective; I see a plant, like any other I have... one that we can derive beneficial uses from, for example, in medical products (glaucoma, rheumatoid arthritis, HIV, Alzheimer's, asthma, cancer, chronic pain that is difficult to control, Crohn's disease, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, insomnia, and Parkinson's), as well as ecological, textile, construction materials, paper, fabrics, soap, food, and cosmetics. I am a Colombian artist with over 20 years of experience. Throughout my artistic practice, experimentation has been the cornerstone of many of my projects. I typically develop series where my main interest is to work on concepts such as time, the ephemeral, the eternal, ecological themes, social-environmental awareness, and personal topics. Through observing my reality, I delve into the responsibility of our actions, concluding that as human beings, we must embrace nature since we are part of it. Understanding the importance of my inner world, as well as that of all individuals, has always been linked to my work, while not neglecting to critique society which, in my view, prioritizes material interests over harmony and balance with the environment. However, I also reflect on my own life; I am very self-critical, analyzing my own processes of physical and mental transformation, accepting and recognizing myself, which is reflected in much of my work. All of this has led me to think about human survival, particularly my own, my son's, and my family's. In this way, I contemplate how to solve and generate changes from individuality and social consciousness through my language, art.
