At the time of its creation, the act alone of taking this self-portrait nude was the first step in facing deep-seated fear to emerge out of dark, near-drowning emotional depths while choosing raw and radical vulnerability. The way my body laid bare on the log reminded me of the way flies stuck to sticky fly traps in the barn of the farm in Pennsylvania where I grew up playing in haystacks and mucking stalls. This connection gave way to the title, "Venus Fly Trap." Venus, as she existed in Roman theology - the yielding, watery female, the goddess of love, victory, fertility and even prostitution. As always enthralled with word play, the carnivorous Venus flytrap, which is found in bogs or wet savannahs, was historically also known by the slang term 'tipitiwitchet' or 'tippity twitchet,' possibly an oblique reference to the plant's resemblance to human female genitalia. This print is signed, numbered and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. Printed on beautiful Hahnemühle Photo Rag Kodak Metallic paper using an Inkjet process that guarantees archival standards and paper quality that assures longevity.

Raised both in the woods of a 300 year old Pennsylvania farm and on the beaches of Kauai, Hawaii, Liz finds a beautiful tension and influence between these two disparate, but equally formative environments. The contrast between the two has colored the conceptual nature of her work. This conversation embraces moody palettes, bright tropical accents, the femme form and natural elements to express themes of self-reflection, fertility, rebirth and self-discovery. Through her surrealist landscapes and moody portraits, she strives to capture authentic feeling, find commonalities between perceived extremes, and to uphold the infinite strength of the feminine. Liz is currently based in Los Angeles, CA - coincidentally, the geographical middle between Pennsylvania and Kauai.
