'Pirates Cove' The Fleet & Chesil Bank, oil on hardboard panel 28 x 80 cm. Mounted in White painted hardwood tray frame. Oil painted loosely with brush and palette knife in a realistic but textured style on mdf panel, set in hardwood tray frame Situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty on the 'Jurassic Coast' nr Weymouth Dorset. The Fleet lagoon is a saltwater lagoon, between land and sea, separated from the sea by a giant pebble bank formed 10,000 years ago ant the end of the last Ice Age. Pirates cove is a natural cove on the Fleet and got its name from smugglers landing contraband while avoiding the Customs & excise in the 18th century. It is now popular with dog walkers and tourists. Taken from a walk along the Fleet lagoon,on a bright but chilly afternoon in March, I loved the the way the ripples of water formed channels along the beach at low tide, so I took a few photo's and couldn't resist painting the scene.
