This work is about Pashupati, a form of Hindu God Shiva. Pashupati means lord of animals/beasts. He carries the whole biodiversity on his back. He is Jeeva. He is a guru. He has mastered Yoga and time. The whole world resides in Him and he, in every single being. Shiva is also a great yogi (who who has mastered all forms of yoga), so in the work he is in a deep meditative state. Details: Jupiter: Jupiter is the Jeeva karaka + significator of life and Pashupati binds all the Jeeva (life). Jupiter is also a guru (teacher), significator or bestower of higher knowledge, of spiritual knowledge. And Shiva is the one who has immense spiritual knowledge. They both are guru. 3 - Moon: Moon is the mind and emotions. He wears it on his head because he has mastered his mind and emotions. The waxing and waning of the moon signifies the passing of time and Shiva can control time. He is timeless. 4 - Saturn: Shiva bestowed Shani Dev (Saturn) the responsibility of being the cosmic judge. The one Judges all beings, Devtas (gods) and humans. Not even Devtas can escape Shani's Judgement. Shani is also said to have destructive properties, similar to Shiva, so that they can pave the way for new beginnings and impart lessons. 5 - Swan is Bramha and Saraswati, Eagle is Vishnu. 6 - Deepa/Diya used during Ganga Arti in Varanasi. Shiva holds Ganga in his hair, he reveres her, worshipped her, and protects her. The snake is called Vasuki, which was used to churn the cosmic ocean during Samudhra Mantan. Vasuki earned the place on Shiva's neck as he helped in the cosmic event. He is also said to prevent the halahalal or the poison to prevent descending from Shiva's throat. Vasuki coiled around Shiva's neck also symbolises his mastery over his senses and desires. 7 - Hanuman: Some say Hanuman is an avatar of Shiva. He is also the chief of vaarnar or the forest being clan, so he is a significant part of the main character in the work.

Artist Bio Raksha is a fine artist based in Bengaluru. She graduated from Karnataka ChitraKala Parishat in 2019 with a degree in Visual Arts. Since then, she has been exploring her art practice through a multitude of concepts using the medium of traditional painting. In between being a full-time practicing artist, she has worked as an art instructor in an art studio and a school and also worked as a content writer for 1.5 years. Creating art has always been an escape from the constant existential crisis she experienced from a young age. The act of creating something not only distracted her from it but also helped her find answers to questions she could not articulate and ask. She had a strong desire for something unusual, fantastical, or fictional to exist so she would read books and create works of that genre. Her ideas were initially driven by curiosity into the subconscious realm of dreams. She would draw elements and scenarios from her dreams and personal experiences sometimes induced by emotional stress. Her works has slowly moved on from exploring dreams to reality, creating visual stories with the aim of providing a surreal escape for the viewers. Some of Raksha’s earlier influences include Salvador Dali, Tyeb Mehta, James Jean, Scott M Fisher, to name a few. When she discovered the works of Lucian Freud in the college library, it transformed her outlook on figurative paintings and the way she painted. Now her works are influenced by ancient Asian art, miniatures works from the middle east, and ancient Indian art. While mythology, astrology, local traditions. ancient cultures, and dreams are some of things she explores, she is also captivated by the people she sees everyday in public She had her debut solo show at Alliance Francaise de Bangalore in March 2022 and has participated in group shows in Bangalore, Mumbai, and Delhi.
