The art series "CAVAE SCUTUM" , Hollow Shields from Latin, explores the hollow emotional and psychological defenses that modern society has created seeking isolation. . CAVAE SCUTUM V was selected to XIV Florence Biennale 2023 and Osten Biennial 2024 In the grotesque scene we can discern a powerful analogy to oppressive government systems that subjugate the masses. The headless giant man, with his unchecked power, represents the ruling elite devoid of empathy and indifferent to the suffering of ordinary people. His act of urinating on the crowd symbolizes the disdain and humiliation that rulers impose on the less fortunate. The crowd, in turn, uses their hollow shields (umbrellas) as an illusory form of protection. These fragile artifacts represent the false promises and illusions of security that the system imposes on the most vulnerable. By seeking refuge under these frail defenses, people are led to believe they are protected and that their suffering will be alleviated, when in reality, they are merely submitting to oppression. Beside them, the obese woman lies lasciviously, also wearing an umbrella over her head, seemingly observing the scene but blind to it. She represents the segment of society that, despite outward comfort, is trapped in complacency and ignorance, unable to see the reality surrounding them. This somber analogy urges us to question government systems that perpetuate inequality and oppression. It alerts us to the need to open our eyes, resist manipulation, and strive for a system that promotes justice, equality, and the well-being of all citizens. Only when we recognize reality and unite in pursuit of change can we break free from the chains of oppression.

Brazil
René was born in the 60's, in São Paulo, Brazil, during the Military Dictatorship. Art bloomed in his childhood, in the 70's and his formal artistic preparation and training took place during the adolescence, between 13 and 17 years of age, when he studied art history, artistic movements and various painting techniques. For years, René developed his singular style, an amalgamation of different influences passing through enshrined names from comic books, pop art, the great classics and modern masters, contemporary art, and everything else his unquiet mind can absorb. Each artwork has a dense narrative full of details. It is like little stories that are relevant for the big picture. Sometimes, the protagonist is just a spectator, who placidly observes the scene depicted or protagonist is the viewer himself, establishing a dialogue between the collective and the individual simultaneously. Aside his career as an artist, René was an executive in the Brazilian publishing market, being a publisher and editor of magazines and books Rene's art is innovative and shares his feelings about human existence, using allegories to represent people's daily lives. His vision as an artist is to suppress his own ego from his artwork in order to create a mirror where the viewer can see himself.
